Inspired to Explore Inc (ITE) is a Pennsylvania-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit human development organization with the mission to explore nature, inspire change, and enhance our health and well-being. The organization has a vision to inspire change in people's lives and livelihoods through a deeper connection with the natural world. ITE uses the transformative power of nature, education, leadership, and community to help people learn, grow, lead, and transform.. Over the past three years, ITE has hosted 20 + free events that includes community hikes, runs and outdoor wellness events where more than 800 people participated from Dauphin, Cumberland, York, and Perry Counties, Pittsburgh, and Scranton. Majority of the participants reported that the outdoor experiences like hiking and biking have positively changed how they felt in their body, their mind, and their sense of belonging. ITE's active programs includes outdoor wellness advocacy (Nature Rx Advocacy), leadership training and development, nature-powered productivity, education and scholarships, and youth empowerment are not a menu of separate services.

Maryland Heights Trailhead Hike
A moderately paced, 5-mile round trip hike takes you to a lookout point that gives you a bird's eye view of Harper's Ferry and the Potomac River. There's also an old Union gun battery nearby. The hike will take you a couple miles uphill so you might want to leave the kids and the dogs at home.

About the event
Trail is open during daylight hours. Closed from sunset to sunrise.
We recommend that visitors park at the Visitor Center parking area and use the park’s free shuttle system or the Visitor Center to Lower Town Trail to access the trail from Lower Town.
From the Master Armorer's House in Lower Town turn right to merge with the Appalachian Trail at the end of Shenandoah Street, then proceed under the railroad trestle out to the Point. Cross the footbridge over the Potomac River and go down the spiral staircase to the C&O Canal Towpath. Turn left (upstream) and follow the C&O Canal Towpath for 0.3 miles, then cross a small wooden footbridge over the canal bed to Harpers Ferry Road. Directly across the road is the Maryland Heights trailhead.
