What is the purpose of Inspired To Explore’s community events?
The purpose of our community events is to introduce youth and adults to the basics of hiking, biking, and being in the great outdoors while encouraging an appreciation for nature, promoting physical fitness, and fostering teamwork and leadership skills in a safe, group setting.

What should participants bring to the hiking events?

Comfortable hiking shoes or boots

Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best)

A baseball hat and sunglasses

A small backpack (15–30L)

1–2 liters of water

Healthy snacks (e.g., fruit, nuts, granola bars)

What to expect during the community event?

What safety measures are in place?

Trip leaders who are trained as Wilderness First Responders

What if a participant feels tired or unwell during the community event?

They should inform a leader immediately

The group will take a break if needed

Leaders are trained to handle minor injuries and health issues; serious concerns will be addressed promptly and, if necessary, additional medical help will be sought
What happens after the community event?

There will be a cool-down period with stretching exercises

Participants will gather for a debrief to discuss their experiences and what they learned

Feedback will be collected to improve future community events

Parents/guardians will be informed of the day’s activities and any noteworthy events

What is the duration and distance of Inspired to Explore’s community hiking events?
The hike typically lasts 2.5–3 hours, including breaks, and covers a distance of 4–5 miles, depending on the group's pace and trail conditions.

What if the weather is bad on the day of the community event?
If there is bad weather, participants will be notified of any changes or cancellations in advance. If the event is rescheduled, participants will be informed of the new date and time. Alternative indoor activities related to hiking, biking, or nature may be organized if possible.

How can parents/guardians contact the leaders during the community event?
Parents/guardians will be provided with contact information for the trip leaders and can reach them in case of emergency or to check in on the progress of the event.
