Short text *
Three years ago, Neil Bhandari, founder of Inspired to Explore, couldn't run a mile, but through the power of nature and a commitment to personal growth, Neil is taking on bigger and bigger challenges. From the Chicago Marathon to the tallest peaks in Antarctica and South America, we're building a community of people who are Inspired To Explore.

This past weekend, Neil Bhandari, founder of Inspired to Explore, completed the 2024 Chicago Marathon. The 26.2-mile (42 KM) course, set against the stunning backdrop of Chicago’s city streets, tested both physical and mental endurance. For Neil, it was more than just a race; it was a challenge that exemplified everything he believes in—persistence, self-discovery, and personal growth.
“Running 26.2 miles with world-class athletes and cheering spectators was an amazing experience,” Neil shared. “After 30K, I started experiencing muscle cramps and had to slow down. But I still managed to finish!” Despite the discomfort, Neil powered through to cross the finish line, demonstrating the grit that has become central to both his personal journey and his work with Inspired to Explore.
The marathon wasn’t just about pushing limits physically—it was about embracing preparation, resilience, and, most importantly, finishing injury-free. Neil was quick to point out that his success was due in large part to a carefully structured training program, which emphasized the importance of hydration, proper fueling, strength training, and sticking to a steady regimen. “I learned that following coaching guidelines, steady training, proper hydration and fueling, and strength training are key to finishing strong,” Neil explained. “But it’s equally important to finish the race free of injury, and I managed that.”
Perhaps what makes Neil’s marathon accomplishment even more inspiring is the personal transformation it represents. “Three years ago, I couldn’t run a mile without stopping,” Neil reflected. To go from struggling with short distances to completing one of the most prestigious marathons in the world is a testament to his determination. His story proves that with consistent effort and grit, anyone can push the boundaries of what’s possible. “This experience has shown me that perseverance can change not just how we approach challenges but our outlook on life as a whole.”
But Neil’s run wasn’t just about personal achievement—it was also a way to draw attention to his non-profit Inspired to Explore and our newly launched Peak Impact campaign. Through this campaign, Neil will also be climbing Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica, and Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, to raise awareness and funds for various programs supported by Inspired to Explore.
As Neil prepares for these upcoming expeditions, he calls on the community to get involved with Inspired to Explore’s mission of empowering others through nature and adventure. “If you believe in the transformative power of nature and the impact of consistent hard work, grit, and perseverance, consider supporting Inspired to Explore,” Neil said passionately. Through the Peak Impact campaign, Neil is not just summiting peaks—he’s building a community. A community that believes in perseverance, self-discovery, and the untapped potential within each of us.
Inspired to Explore’s mission is grounded in the belief that the outdoors can be a powerful tool for personal and collective growth. As the organization gears up for its fall programs, including hiking, picnics, and other outdoor activities, Neil is inviting others to be part of the journey. “This is about more than just outdoor recreation—it’s about building a community of people who are inspired to explore their potential,” Neil shared.
Neil’s marathon accomplishment and the upcoming expeditions are part of a larger vision for Inspired to Explore: to inspire people to challenge themselves and to use the natural world as a catalyst for growth. Whether running a race, climbing a mountain, or simply looking for ways to get more out of life, Neil’s message is clear: the possibilities are endless if you’re willing to put in the work and explore beyond your comfort zone.
The call to action is simple but powerful: Are you ready to challenge yourself? Are you to be Inspired 2 Explore? Join the movement, push your limits, and let’s make an impact that reaches new heights.
